Teeth are made up of two essential components as it relates to cavity repair and dental fillings. The outer part of the tooth is the enamel. This is the hard surface of the teeth that can be worn away when not properly cared for. Underneath the enamel is the dentin. Dentin is a more porous material that more closely resembles actual bone and actually transmits feeling (i.e. sensitive to hot and cold). With tooth colored composite fillings, plastic resin and silica filler can closely replicate natural teeth in both appearance and function.
